How to compress an image

  1. Choose a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image up to 50 MB.
  2. Choose JPEG or WebP and adjust the quality slider.
  3. Select Create compressed image, then compare the preview and file size.
  4. Download the result if it looks right. Your original stays unchanged.

What the quality setting means

The quality setting controls lossy encoding. Lower settings generally create smaller files, with a greater chance of visible changes. The result varies by image and browser, and compression may produce a file larger than the original. LeapArc shows the measured difference after export.

Supported formats and limits

Input: JPEG, PNG, and WebP. Output: JPEG or WebP. The browser must support the selected output format; LeapArc verifies the actual exported MIME type and file signature. Images are limited to 50 MB, 40 megapixels, and 16,384 pixels per side. JPEG does not preserve transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white.

For a general explanation of lossy and lossless compression, see how image compression works. To keep transparency or sharp text, compare a PNG or WebP export with the original before choosing a format.
